This will come as a massive shock after record-breaking heat a few days ago.

One of the most impressive cold air outbreaks I have seen for a while.

A nice wave in the jet stream and the Arctic floodgates are open.

Very efficient transport of cold, perfect setup.

The contrast from this week to next is almost a joke. One of the reasons I didn't make this post yesterday - nobody would believe it! 😅

Summer heat in March ⚠️

Parts of North Africa are heading into the furnace this weekend.

Some places will break +40°C (104°F). The average for this time of year is closer to +25-30°C (77-86°F).

We just observed a staggering +20.4°C in Iceland 🇮🇸 today!

The weather pattern is perfect for delivering exceptional warmth all the way into the Arctic Circle right now.

Meanwhile Europe is heading back into the freezer 🥶

Very polarised February.

Warm Southern EU, Arctic, Canadian and a lot of Central/Eastern Asia.

Savage cold in North America and extreme cold through Russia and into Scandinavia.

Cool Antarctic and Australia again.

This was January on its own. Cold building in Russia, remarkable warmth in Canada and Arctic. North Africa and Tibet notably warm/hot.

Meteorologists like to split the year up into 3-month seasonal chunks for statistical purposes. Winter in the Northern Hemisphere is considered Dec, Jan & Feb.
