In what has to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen, the Stegosaurus in the Windows search bar advertising the Windows AI image generator is clearly plagiarized from this classic depiction by Joe Tucciarone. How perfect is that?

After a short stay in the Incubation Accelerator, the purple egg hatched into SHADESQUAB.

The strange creature fits in the palm of your hand. It shrieks incessantly, like a chick begging for food. You sense that it possesses a terrible hidden power, and it fills you with dread.

And finally, so many years down the line, the introduction of Mega Evolution granted us the mixed blessing of Mega Greymon, or “WarGreymon” as it became popularly known. I’m not a fan of the humanoid proportions but it’s good as far as anthro-dinosauroids go. I’ll go with 6/10.

When Gold and Silver introduced the new Steel type, it was no surprise to see fan-favourite Greymon getting a new form to show it off! MetalGreymon is a little less gnarly than classic Greymon but still monstrous, and I love that the missiles are little creatures themselves! 9/10

Sadly, that distinctive appearance is lost in favour of a more generic, semi-reptilian monster when it becomes Koromon. The cat-like eyes that are so iconic to the franchise look great here but I can’t help but be underwhelmed. This is a 5/10 for me, can’t go any higher.

Pokémon Reviews: Paras and Parasect

Cicadas are naturally adorable animals and the Pokémon style captures the almost-alien qualities that make them so cute while giving them a broader appeal. That + parasitic mushrooms is a brilliant way to make a monster. Perfection. 10/10

Vileplume, sadly, returns to Oddish’s simpler face. That’s wouldn’t be a bad thing if Gloom wasn’t so distinctive, so I’ve gotta dock some points. Still a solid Pokémon, with a look that clearly communicates both beauty and toxicity in equal measure. 7.5/10

I adore Gloom, so much so that it might even be in my top five favourite Pokémon. The incorporation of a real-world corpse flower onto the strange little fairie-like body is already cool, but the sleepy expression and drool makes it extra lovable. 10/10, easily.

Pokémon Reviews: Oddish to Vileplume

Oddish is everything I could want from a grass type. It’s a totally fictional creature, but it comes across as a believable little critter that you can interpret in a bunch of different ways. It’s also one of the cutest in Gen 1. 9/10
