Zubat is the first Pokémon that I feel is absolutely perfect. It's obviously a bat, but takes the things we associate with bats (real or otherwise) and exaggerates them into a perfect monster. It has no eyes! Its legs are weird fleshy toothpicks! It screams! It's AWESOME! 10/10.

Wigglytuff always felt a little superfluous to me, and I think the franchise itself feels the same way since you almost never see it compared to Jigglypuff. Still very cute, a bit more "realistic" of a weird little mammal creature. Good but not really for me. 6/10.

Jigglypuff is everything Clefairy wants to be but better. It's absurdly cute and always depicted with a fun personality that helps it stand out from the other pink mammaloids of the franchise. Really good. 8/10

Does anyone else have an outdated depiction of a prehistoric animal that is so ingrained that you think of it as the default appearance of the animal, even if it’s wrong?

For me, it’s John Sibbick’s Quetcoatlus. Seeing it a billion times as a kid burned it into my brain.

Perhaps the most distinctive characteristic of the Thunderbellies are the prominent scutes adorning the lower arm, which serve a role as mineral stores, in defense, and as digging tools. Most species are capable diggers, excavating dens to escape the intense heat of midday. 5/8

It's almost impossible for me to pick just 4, but these ones were the biggest influences on me as a very young kid just learning about the genre.

Ninetales is just plain cool. It's got a perfect blend of ethereal beauty, cuteness, and a subtle hint of hidden power that makes me wish it was a legendary instead of a regular Pokémon. It certainly looks the part, moreso than the hyperdetailed look of most legendaries! 8/10.
