More stuff currently in development. I've been working a lot of ground vehicles to get a ton of optimizations and feature expansions done (most significantly pathfinding as seen above), with the end goal of getting self propelled SAMs working.

I think Wing Commander was vaguely like this, and Air Force Delta Strike had goofy VN-style cutscenes between missions. I haven't played either of those games, but I've convinced myself that's what they were like.

AAA, and consequently vehicles where this is relevant, are now hooked into the sensors system and properly use their own radars to target aircraft. You'll now get a warning on your RWR, and the HUD, the same as aircraft when they target you.

Over the past couple weeks my chosen form of masochistic escapism from the stress of the game's launch has been learning OpenGL and it's finally starting to click. This is my best renderer yet.

Fun fact: until just now, Tiny Combat had no sun in the sky!

Canopies actually do get special shading. The shader is written so that the top of the canopy will have an outline showing you where it ends, even without the dithering. Technically, this is the only smooth shaded thing in the entire game.

Banding in a linear way is actually kinda hard to do because I don't know how to do it for both the skybox AND the ground 😂
That said, the spherical fog is not without historical precedent though. E.g. Hornet 3.0/Korea.

This a bit more "period correct" in terms of how clouds and fog were done for these kinds of games, and the combination of both using dithering always made me worry about overdoing it. At some point dithering becomes noise across the entire screen, and TCA was riding that line.

What are thoughts on removing the dithering from the clouds and fog?

In a hypothetical hardware accelerated version of the game, this is probably what clouds would look like 😂
