Heraldry has meaning. After the Battle of Teba in 1330 (James Douglas throwing King Robert's heart). The Bruce heart badge was added to the Douglas heraldry to remember this event and scare their enemies because of their fame in combat.
@nickfshort If I know the Plan/layout I can reconstruct in a few hours. My watercolour paintings would take 4 of 5 days. I've got a libary of building techniques stored away in my head that I can draw from over the past 40 years which makes it straight forward for me to 'see' the rebuild.
Fast Castle did reconstruction in 1987 followed corbel machicolations along as I thought it was a Hall block. But changed this when I found (in ruin painting) it led to part of a Keep which makes alot more defensive sense. So tweaked reconstruction. #FastCastle #ScottishCastles
Big fan of weapon designer Hans Talhoffer (1450s) have a copy of his weaponised buckler & Messer (Big knife). Also made a prop copy of his diving suit Helm, covering a German jousting helm in leather with a hose pipe.
Before working at Tantallon Castle in 1981 and being mad about Castles and medieval armour. I was mad on the TV shows of Doctor Who, Space 1999 and the weekly comic of 2000A.D with Judge Dredd. Some of my comic story drawings from 1979 and Dalek comic idea from 2006.
Wolf of Badenoch's Tomb with location of hinge for attaching a vented battle visor or a smooth unvented jousting visor. Both visors overlap/lock at the neck giving double thickness to throat area. As lance strikes cut thru mail aventails in this area in the past. #WolfOfBadenoch

In 1314 Roxburgh Castle captured by surprise by the Black Douglas & slighted by Scots to stop its use as an Auld enemy base. The Black Douglas escorted the Castle Governor to the Border for his own safety as locals wanted to kill him. #RoxburghCastle
