Early on in his life, JMW Turner would recreate the Dark Prisons of Piranesi in his own distinct watercolour style. Later, he'd re-imagine the spaces altogether, using them as the basis for lecture diagrams illustrating light and shadow to his students.

Mundaun does a lot of lovely, creepy stuff with shadows. Forgot to take screenshots of the bunker section, but there's an entire puzzle that involves following silhouettes like Ariadne's thread through the labyrinth. https://t.co/DUo385lvtm

If "Biggest Communism Builder" isn't the first achievement you unlock in Disco Elysium, you're playing it wrong.

A set of fantastical images produced by Carioca Studios depicting several Moscow landmarks (Saint Basil’s Cathedral, the State University, and the Bolshoi Theatre) as architectural tips of impossible subterranean icebergs.

That new image from Playdead's next game reminds me of some of the work of Jean-Pierre Ugarte (inspired by what you might call "bunkertecture"). There isn't the same discernible natural landscape, but it does have that same austereness and a feeling of overwhelming structure.

Should say, DS remake's aesthetic disconnect applies well beyond just creature design. Just a glance at Boletarian Palace, we see two completely different styles of architecture: original is stark, baronial/medieval--remake is ornate, neo-Gothic. It completely alters the mood. https://t.co/EtPDx2Upc0

Joseph Michael Gandy--a visionary architect and ruin-obsessed Romantic, who's sometimes referred to as the "English Piranesi". Was a slightly unfortunate soul... unrecognised in his time, dying in an asylum in Devon, with no record of his grave site.

Some familiar looking Bloodborne concept art side-by-side with one of Gustave Doré's London riverside streets + Piranesi's Imaginary Prisons. All feels very narrow and oppressive - the streets leaning in on you - as well lofty, various things dangling down & the sky blocked out.
