Updated the Sengoku Rance screenshots in the book, from the 2009 fan-translation to the official 2019 MangaGamer release.

Goddamn, the art, designs and characterization in this game are absolutely brilliant, such a shame most people will never play it...

Due to the way the CRPG Book is formatted, I need an extra 1-page review of an RPG between 2005 and 2007... AKA, the worst time in history for RPGs.

The options are games like Dungeon Lords, Sonny, SilverFall, Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard, Loki or Marvel: Ultimate Alliance...

I was checking the reader's poll in the old CGW magazines and one of the top RPGs in Jan 1997 was... uh... Wolf.

It's a 1994 educational DOS game where you play as a wolf. Its rating is really low, so probably it's just that 1996 was so bad for RPGs they had nothing else to rank

There's two things that would really sell me on the KOTOR 1 remake:
- Visuals based on the archaic tech shown in Tales of Jedi (KOTOR is set 4,000 yrs before A New Hope)
- A new combat system that's fast-paced yet works with a party-based combat
I doubt I'll see either of them :/

Cythera is a 1999 RPG by Ambrosia Software, exclusive for Mac. It's heavily inspired by Ultima VII, but much more simple.

What really stands out for me is the window-based UI... it's ugly, but so cool and tactile. I find it fascinating :D

It's crazy just how influential the Ultima series was... even stuff like Ultima VI and VII had clones in Asia (in places where they were never officially released lol)

While it has been dead for 20+ years, it's easily up there with Mario & Doom as most influential series ever.

In 2000, a Korean studio made a tactical RPG called Xenoage: Knight of the Rihas.

In 2001, the game was licensed to a Japanese company, that made it into a +18 eroge called 風と大地のページェント

Makes sense, Japan's PC market is mostly porn. BioWare missed a golden chance lol
