Mancubus having a birthday party setting everything on fire. Funny how much a tongue in cheek hat changes the story. Slowly getting the hang of painting with limited values using the shape tool, much faster than starting with lines.
Oh dang, a tweet. Sorta forgot about this place for some reason. Made some monkey dude in a space suit last night. Feels weird to make 2D art now after spending so much time on 3D in the last few months.
Another week long practice project done. ~500 tris and a 1024 texture. Baked a base from high res using the DOTA2 texture guide as a starting point, then painted in Blender 2.8. Learned about the value of good UVs, and using a cage for baking. Turned out cooler than expected :o
Tested morning streaming again, talked about what is sketching in 2D vs 3D really best at. Realized adding local color adds a lot to design and story. The rhino was boring storywise without the chain for accent color. Shading and rendering would almost always be easier in 3D.
Daydreamed about visiting the zoo earlier today for some reason, and there were some pictures of emus. Creepy looking guys, scheming... Really liking the canvasy texture I put in, looks a bit like a real painting :o
Making more animal photo sketches again for variety. Started with a bright pink underpainting, made the color nice and vibrant :o
Calling this thing done. First time mixing sculpting and hard surface modeling. Lighting turned out really cool. Noodling on the painted details helped a lot, would probably have been faster in 3D in hindsight. Need more hard surface and texturing practice. Fun project.
Working on another character, this time mostly in 3D. Mixing sculpting and hard surface modeling is new territory for me. Feels like modeling things like the armor and goggles makes a lot more sense than trying to sculpt them really carefully.
I'm always surprised at how nice things come out when I start with a 3D base. Started with an Oculus Medium sculpt, rough render in Blender, then paint over in Krita. Hard to swap tools multiple times per session. Design is a bit nonsense but turned out cool o.O
This turned out nice, glad I took another day to color it. The low resolution of the HMD made it a bit messier on screen than what it looked like in VR, but it does help me not get stuck in the details as much. Really enjoying this!
