10 years of learning, before and after. 2/?

10 years ago, In 2010 I had barely started as an artist. Here's a thread of some before and afters of 10 years of learning. It's been a wild ride.

Some Mass Effect fan art today. Challenged myself to finish a sculpt and paint over in one stream. Ended up taking about 6 hours but I think it was worth it. Give more Mass Effect sequels.

Dusted off a few skills today I haven't touched in ages with these characters from The Outer Worlds. Would have taken way too long to do in 3D so painting was a better fit. Very relaxing, easier to chat while painting. Should make the time to do this more often :)

Interesting project. Blender 2.81 sculpt, texture with Substance Painter, Cycles render with ACES color space, turn into a painting with a freeware app called FotoSketcher, and paint over. The app doesn't finish it for you but saves time and a painterly base shows in the result

Took a small break from all the sculpting recently to get some modeling modeling and texturing done. The axe is for a friend's character from a sketch, and the techy thing is a study from Destiny 2.

A quick coat of paint on this one really made it work. The sculpt itself came out a bit lumpy but the skin texture covers it up nicely. Should probably get textures on these more often.

More virtual plein air in Fallout 4 VR. So many more small shapes to paint in daylight. In the night everything turns into silhouettes. I love the sketchiness of scribbling everything in though. Colors don't really come out perfect when in VR but it's not too bad :P

Been making ammo boxes from DOOM lately to practice my 3D modeling skills. No textures or anything, just complicated shapes. Every time I think it's a piece of cake it takes me an hour to cut a single hole cleanly...
