Then on to the next one: Lover's Rain. Not horrible, though not that interesting overall. I have this strange feeling like they were trying to pull a Goshogun:Time Etranger with it, but didn't quite get it. I pulled this nice clip from presumably Nobyoshi Habara though.
And Ys II ends with an epic bittersweet finale and buffet of grotesque and meticulously detailed monsters and robust effects animation. The constant light effects got to be too much for me (not as much so as the finale of the Dunbine OVA at least), but that sure was satisfying.
Episode 3 of Ys II is in many ways an anti-sakuga anime. There is no point where the animation "picks up" - it's all frenetic, brutal, angry, horrific - a constant flow of purposefully and intensely emotive animation that achieves the accomplishment of great animated storytelling
@Claywh0re Kogawa characters always look so solid. And it's him and his students on AD for a ton of it as well.
