Currently reading Rebuild World, a post-apocalyptic sci-fi light novel. I regret to say that it's mid and reads like all those bad video game-y web novels set in a swords and sorcery world. Too many tedious details and no actual themes or substance.
Finished reading At Night, I Become a Monster by Yoru Sumino.
An uncomfortably good exploration of bullying, told through the perspective of a passive participant. The feeble excuses, the guilt, the desire to be seen as a "good person"... It's all portrayed unflinchingly
I haven't read The World of Otome Games is Tough for Mobs or Villainess: Reloaded!, but the impression I got from reading the reviews is that the authors saw a Narou genre that was popular among women (otome game villainess isekai) and thought, "Let's make a story for men"
TRIVIA TIME
The "Shin no Nakama" (true comrade) in the Japanese title of the Banished From the Hero's Party light novel is a reference to the Tales of Zestiria heroine controversy
When Alisha gets rejected from the party, Mikleo says Sorey needs a "true comrade" (i.e. Rose)
It's really striking to me how much of the Kimetsu no Yaiba merch with original illustrations uses chibi designs... ufotable artists have gotta draw SO MUCH stuff for all these various promotions that I can't blame them for the simplified art
Volume 2 of How Vivi Lane Falls in Love is still probably my favourite light novel cover... I just love the warmth in that picture so much.
Started reading "Why Does Nobody Remember My World?" over the weekend. It's about a guy who ends up in a timeline where nobody remembers him.
The book has an the interesting premise and brisk pacing, but OTOH the character writing is rather weak so far. We'll see if it improves
Can't believe I forgot about Blast of Tempest (Zetsuen no Tempest) until I saw a tweet comparing it to The Detective is Already Dead. It's such a great anime, honestly - full of compelling mysteries and a really intriguing dead character who drives the plot
Finished reading 9S volume 1.
It was a very fun action novel. The SF aspects were a bit half-assed but I appreciated the brisk pacing and how much it left to the imagination.
Although my attention did drift a bit at the end since I didn't care that much about the characters.
I always did sort of lowkey ship Miyuki with Masaki though... mainly cos it had no chance in hell of actually happening
