Had a read of an issue of Thunderbolts in which Danny was kidnapped by Norman Osborn and brainwashed into being a baddie. It was a fun story which reaffirmed how Danny and Luke's friendship works, especially in a modern context (they hadn't worked together for years at this time)

plus Volume 1 came out in the 70s, so yeah, definitely not required reading lmao

although given the people who worked on it across all 17 issues, I'm sure it's a fun read in its own right! I'll probably give it a look myself eventually

This is in reference to the recently announced Heroes Reborn: American Knights which offers an alternate universe take on street level Marvel Knights-esque stories. Now, I'm always up for alt. universe takes. But this is the kind of thing that needs to be handled very carefully.

I'm really glad America Chavez has a new mini-series. I know basically nothing about it but it's something I hope is great so that this great character can get a bigger spotlight. Lastly the book we've all been waiting for, Peach Momoko's Demon Days. Truly breaking the mould.

Last of the top three is Fire Power, a gorgeous book which provides a fresh take on the classic Iron Fist story. With Kirkman's track record it's only a matter of time before this gets made into a TV show. Next up are the issues, with Wiccan and Hulkling being an obvious grab.

Whilst Colleen did experience a breakout success in the 00s alongside Misty, she never quite broke free FROM Misty. Her only recent appearances have really been in dedicated Colleen stories, which are sometimes worth reading! Claremont did his best to put her in the X-Men though.

That aside, Colleen is a pretty important character in the Iron Fist story! Not only are she and her grandfather Lee Wing key characters in the second arc of Marvel Premiere, but there's one occasion in Iron Fist where she mind-melds with Danny and gains all of his knowledge.

Created by Doug Moench and Larry Hama (two men whose comic greatness could get their own threads)

Colleen was introduced in Marvel Premiere (1974) only a few issues after Iron Fist himself debuted. Her true nature as a samurai wouldn't be revealed until later in the story.

A lot of this run can be seen as a precursor to Fraction/Aja's Hawkeye, sure, but it's important to note that Brubaker was also working on Captain America and Daredevil at the same time. Captain America also dealt with recontextualising the past with the Winter Soldier storyline.

The two breather issues, with their different artwork and time periods, are an excellent way to break up the two arcs. It's notable that the second of these is where Brubaker leaves the series in Fraction's hands for two issues, before a wholly new creative team would take over.
