@rexthedogge Yeah, the old top-down view was a lot of fun. The restricted view really kept you on your toes with how quickly the corners would appear. The Amiga has so many good top-down (and 2.5D) racers of this ilk. Then you'd get ones like SuperCars that would add in weapons for more fun.
@OneSwitch @rexthedogge Interesting .. I was thinking that Amiga Lotus has a manual/auto option, so that must pre-date Hard Drivin'. But I forget how much more advanced arcade hardware was back then. Hard Drivin' predates Lotus 2 by a couple of years, and Lotus 1 by one year. 😁
@000Angus000 @wantsamancave @rexthedogge Racers is such a hard one to define as a class (as I already tweeted), but hey, it's hard to even divide the categories well. I'd call Overdrive and Super Cars top-down, but I also feel Skidmarks and Super Offroad should go in that class too, though they're not strictly top-down.
@rexthedogge Ha! I should re-read the original post. "Arcade Racer" 🤔 But hey, I got to mention the excellent Formula 1 GP so I'm happy. 😋 So I'll also mention Turbo Trax, a top-down racer that I don't think got enough recognition. I prefer it to Team 17s Overdrive. Beautiful GFX and music.
@Lord_Arse I did like Rolling Thunder.
The gameplay had me hooked, and I loved the cool art-style. 😁
@CrazyCollector1 Yes! Blue Max! 🛩️
Everyone loves Blue Max. 👍
I did play the other game. But IMHO it's not very good. 😐
@rexthedogge Fight Night isn't bad. It's got some beautiful cartoony graphics. The moves are a little simple, but it was fun to come back to after.. {thinks} ..quite a few years. 😉
@monteboyd Jumps/water would add a nice little bit of variation, without having to change the tracks so much. (It feels to me that nice wide-open tracks suit the current physics well.) ..There was a 3-player of this game at an arcade in town. I love playing these with the spinning wheel. 😁
@monteboyd My tip for the day, playing this on an Intel Graphics Desktop: make sure you've turned-off those blimmin' hot-keys to rotate the screen. 😐 I lost one race to that. Why do they do those hot-keys? I haven't had a single customer at work that ever did that screen-rotate on purpose.
@monteboyd I like the 2.5D viewpoint. Some beautiful looking graphics there. 👍 I was playing a bit of Ironman Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road in MAME this week. I thought that it's the kind of graphics that would fit well with your game. 😁
