@mattatronics 🎵 "Go to your brother"
🎵 "Kill him with your gun"
🎵 "Leave him lying in his uniform"
🎵 "Dying in the sun"
@Neverfjord @CommodoreBlog Barbarian itself was a very good game.
In one-player mode the difficulty of the opponents increased steadily, so you could progress as your skills improved. But it really came into its own as a two-player game. Victory was never assured, as a lucky neck chop could end it all. 😁
@Lord_Arse @idSoftware Wolf 3D was a landmark game.
Sure, Doom has the mind-share now, but Wolf 3D was the start of the craze. 🤔 I had an Amiga, but I remember my PC friends, coming into lectures, all bleary-eyed from being up late playing Wolf 3D.
These screenshots, oddly, from an Amiga version. 😄
@DCharlieUK1 @ausretrogamer I didn't know Leviathan made it to the arcades.
I only knew it from the C64. It's a pretty game. If only they'd stuck with the same control system as Zaxxon, it would have been excellent fun. But making the ship turn makes it impossible to manoeuvre and shoot simultaneously. 😐
@ausretrogamer My mind went back to a game I played on the C64. A Mastertronic published game simply called "Ninja."
Not only did the gameplay seem quite similar, but the level layout seemed much the same. And wouldn't you know it, it's written by the same software team: "Sculptured Software".
@CarletonHandley Split Personalities is an excellent game.
I just wish I still had the fast reactions I had as a kid.
😄
@jeff_hanna Another Arcadia sports one that I never really tried out (until today): World Darts. Now, this one is an odd beast. Left on its own, it cycles through some almost "Amiga demo" scene sequences, with funky dissolves, dual-playfields, RGB cycling, and sinusoidal distortion..
🤔
@kamelito @ausretrogamer Yup, Road Wars is another.
Man, that guy has some impressive spherical boobs. 😋
I wonder if the Arcadia board idea failed because the established manufacturers were just producing better, more fun, more targetted stuff with bigger budgets and more impressive, yet cheaper boards.
@american80s (I still think the original game, before they added trees or bunkers was, from a gameplay perspective, the best game. You hit that ball out of bounds? It's in the water. Try again. A real good infuriating price for failure there.) 😎
@american80s There's a part of me that wishes the creators had gone "Nah! Screw this! The C64 version was best!" And just put a C64 in the arcade cabinet. 😁
