Retrogaming of the 8 and 16 bit variety. That's my jam. 😎

Of course Commodore didn't help anyone, because they managed it right into the ground. AGA should have been better (IMHO better sound should have been included), CPU's should have been faster, a solid strategy for CD should have been executed. {shrugs} Cest la vie,eh? 😁

The Amiga was designed around a different age. Brilliantly designed. But designed around 2D, sprites and scrolling. Then the age of FPS games happened. CPU speed was king, and all the Amiga's chipset had nothing to do. We had 14MHz, and needed 66+, chunky graphics, and an FPU 😐

Basically, I've been spending far too much time on MAME. 😄 And, the *really* nice thing is that people can get a Raspberry Pi, load up an SD-card with one the whole emulator setup for MAME/SNES/whatever, and have quite a speedy machine that can run a whole heap of arcade games.

I think, once we got into the 1 - 2 GHz PC's, 16bit arcade games started to become quite playable under MAME. (I think I was even able to do a couple of these are respectable speeds on a 233MHz Mac laptop I borrowed from work.) 😄

The nice thing with MAME is that old (Win9x) PC's were able to run the older games quite well using the DOS version of MAME. (I started with a 120MHz Pentium laptop.) Then, once PC's started speeding past 400MHz the windows versions were becoming really good. 😎

I just love the art style..

Sometimes you see and you go "oh my god this it brilliant! why has no-one done this before?"

Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters is one of those games. (MAME/arcade.)

When you boil it down, it's really just a Gauntlet variant. But it's got style. 😎

But, in my Amiga 1200 years, I became fascinated with ZX Spectrum and then C64 emulation. So I've slowly been building up my collections for those machines too. All my teenage years were C64, so that's the one I've been putting my time into. Even transferred some real disks. 👍

What was generally needed with C64 games, was to own them as a kid. When you had kid reflexes, and this was the only game you had for two weeks, so you'd try it several hundred times until you got it down pat.
😋

Modern adults are screwed. 🤣

The pole vault is definitely a tricky one.
Once you get the timing right for that one it feels like a real achievement. 👍 The gymnastics is just weird though. As she somersaults through the air, the angular momentum speeds up and slows down. I don't approve. 😐
