First book my class chose was the infinite lives of Maisie day which always goes down well, we followed that with Freddie Yates which they also loved and we started After the War today which is completely different but I’m hoping they will get a lot out of.

After kicking the year off with a few of my favourite Paul Jennings stories, we dived straight into The Super Miraculous Journey of Freddie Yates by and . It's a genuinely funny book and was hugely popular with my Y5/6 class.

I should’ve included this cover as this is the one I remember being read on the carpet at school. Never looked at a supply teacher the same again since. Magic!

A1: I think the more things you speak/read aloud, the more things you love listening to. As a child,it was a blend of fiction/PBs & I always remember my dad & I reading factual books aloud. That developed into learning languages like Japanese. Sharing snowballs.

Q2- Help them to discover and explore the poetry that's relevant to them, their experiences, their families, their lives, their futures. Have the books available in the classroom but let them lead the way.

As a kid I loved going to the comic shop with my dad. They had older comics in the basement for <50p each. These are the series I really remember. Probably wildly in appropriate age-wise (probably around 10) but loved it

Q3. Came across The Lost Homework recently... also there is something striking in The Secret Garden about class divisions. There was a book I studied before too but I think it is banned now-Summer of my German Soldier?

Q1. Remember this series making an impact. First proper meeting with death in a book - up until then reading was safe, characters safe. The final image is seared into my memory. Jupiter was such a menacing villain. Think is a fan (?)

Q1: Start a class UKS2 graphic novel collection with these and you'll have the kids hooked on reading them pretty quickly.

A4: This JUST came out so I've not read it to kids yet but hearing read aloud whilst live-drew Larry the llama at showcase was an unforgettable experience! Cannot wait to read it at school, such a fun book.
