I use a custom little 3-part curve brush for stylized hair. If I want it to look more broken up I grab some edge loops with move auto radius in z-modeler brush.

My final project for my modeling class!! I'm very proud of the result :) Seeing my own character in 3d is very cool I'm only sad it's digital and I cant hold him, but it sure is going to be very usefull for drawing weird angles!
