17 Sept 1745  -  The Jacobite army captures the city of Edinburgh without firing a shot after charging through the city gates when they open for an arriving carriage.

16 April 1746. Loyalist forces of George II defeated the Jacobites, supported by French troops, who wanted to restore the Stuarts to the British throne, at the Battle of Culloden. After the battle, many highland traditions were banned.

On this day 275 years ago in Preston 'Bonnie Prince Charlie' gave this gold locket and portrait of himself to Miss Pedder at a ball held in his honour.

He aimed restore the Stuarts to the throne, but retreated to Scotland a couple of weeks later.
