@lesbiposting these are mine <3 i hope everyone is having a wonderful day today
(all of these desaturated versión were made by @/osteology !!)
Take oviraptorosaue crests, always drawn like cassowary casques, but what anatomical evidence is there for that? These “speculative” facial balloons are much better supported by the osteology of the skull

Adding some smallish bipedal ornithischians to the mix was a must and Thescelosaurus with well known osteology and interesting skull shape was a obvious pick (also gives the T. rex something to eat)

This was a particularly difficult group to work on. We had hoped that micro-CT scans would make things a lot easier, but that work wound up being more like palaeontology or forensics than typical descriptive osteology. How does this even happen to a skull‽
This is Dr. Fessler, my SCP OC & senior researcher who worked at site 54 for 11 years before being transfered elsewhere. Specializes in histology, osteology and oncology. He's a brilliant mind and loyal to the foundation to a fault, his mental condition is frequently monitored.
Unlike bovid #horns (ex. cow), #rhino horns are completely made of keratin and aren't part of the #skull. But you can still see their impact on the skull! Rhino nose bones are enlarged to support their front horn. Some rhinos also have a second, smaller horn behind it. #osteology

@DanDagostino_ Nothing in particular - I’m doing C&S dissections on wrasses (looking at osteology). The seahorse was a piggy back specimen from another department. I don’t work on those, just helping them out with it. Not entirely sure what they’re looking for with those.
The vomer is a thin, delicate bone which sits in the midline of the nasal cavity, separating it into two halves.
The #etymology of the vomer is a bit of a journey. The name is adapted from the latin 'vomere', which means quite literally 'to vomit'.
