Today is the 500th Anniversary of the Diet of Worms, which led to the denouncement of Martin Luther and Protestantism.
Very disappointing that no one actually ate worms though. 🤔

Born in Exeter, he was the son of a goldsmith & sheriff of Exeter. His family was active in Protestantism & he is known to have been in Geneva as a child (1557) to escape the reign of the Roman Catholic Queen Mary. By 1560 he had painted a self-portrait. Self-portrait (1577)
