5/8/78: With CAPTAIN AMERICA #225 Mike Zeck delivers his debut on a title that would eventually cement his standing in comics history. This is a fill-in issue, but three years later the book would become his, and this cover has grown in status as well. Script by Peter Gillis.
Writer John Broome was born OTD in 1913. The writer contributed large chunks of the DCU over his career, including the creation of Green Lantern, Phantom Stranger, Elongated Man and the Silver Age Flash redesign. My first Broome stories were his 50s SF reprints. He died in 1999.
"Neal Adams was the guy who represented that turn, from people who did it because they had to do it, because it was a job, to someone who chose to do it because it was an art." - Gerry Conway
4/30/74: DAREDEVIL #112 is in Steve Gerber's wild run, which he said is where he learned to write superheroes. It's the culmination of the Black Spectre storyline, in which the Mandrill achieves his goal of the Oval Office. Also featuring the Black Widow & Shanna the She-Devil.
