This electric tiger family were created during Gen 1's development, but ended up getting cut in development. A few years later, they were planned to return in Gen 2... but sadly, got cut again.

@didyouknowgamin Scyther, because he looks cool af and Swords Dance is awesome, especially when you're under-leveled against the Elite 4. Lugia's probably second, because of its unique development history. And also because it just looks cool. Moral of the story: I like Pokemon that look cool.
Beta Yanmega:
In addition to a prehistoric bug, Yanmega's beta design drew much of its inspiration from military helicopters -- a motif that ended up getting dialed back in its final design.

Beta Lickilicky:
Gold & Silver's 1997 demo included an evolved form of Lickitung that ended up getting cut from Gen 2. But Lickitung eventually got a redesigned evolution in Gen 4.

@reggie_800 ^ The Blastoise art used above comes from Blastoise's Carddass card, @Fleckaben enhanced it for me. I commission @RacieBeep to make the full box art. She also make the art below based on Blastoise's 3D model, but I ended up using the Carddass art instead. (I'm @reggie_800 btw)
Beta Scyther:
In Dec 2018, Pokemon Company CEO Ishihara showcased some Gen 1 beta sprites on Japanese TV, including Scyther's -- revealing his chonky original design for the very first time.

In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, Scizor was originally Bug/Flying type and evolved at level 41. But he was later redesigned, revised to Bug/Steel, and evolving via Metal Coat.

Beta Gyarados:
In December 2018, Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara showcased Gyarados's Gen 1 beta sprite on Japanese TV, revealing the original, much more bizarre Gyarados design.

Beta Magby:
In Gold & Silver's 1997 demo, Magby evolved at level 15, but he was later redesigned and changed to level 30. Interestingly though, his final sprite still retained his beta belly.

Beta Politoed:
A beta leak earlier this year revealed an early Politoed design scrapped during Gen 2's development. As you can see, back then it still had the Poliwag family's iconic swirl.
