She was already a big thing having worked extensively on Utena (1997) & Fruit Basket (2001). She will stay close to Gainax working on the big projects...

Went looking for the scene from X tv#1, found it on shitty quality on yt but it's more than enough to illustrate the technique.
Interesting on this case the rotation is not complete, it just switch side, like Kawajiri is trying to say that friendship will switch from good to bad?

In 2009, Gainax started a new series of illustration for its homepage dedicated to SF.

My favorite one of the bunch came from illustrator Kei Kobayashi, which looked like classic space exploration drawing inspired by Moebius colorful palette.

Back in the 90' everything was hand drawn, you can see the level of dedication they put to draw all mechanical parts from cars to mechs - it's just amazing.

Not the craziest animation wise, they did not handle this one Griffon encounter climax - they still did the job 👍

I don't know who could be the culprit, it's also the second time that Kiyoshi Egami (director) & Mitsuko Kase (storyboard) worked together.

These type of focus on the emotion already happened but with another technique.

Effect appreciation time

I wonder if that was the common style in the 90' ? Whatever it is, i really like the shape and form of these.

Looking into FLCL illustrations, i popped into this one - i don't see much publicise by Keiko Shimizu.

She was in charge of the FLCL original series ED animation. She might also be known for her chara design work on the marvellous Emma: A Victorian Romance.

khara's Evangelion was on the news since the final movie got its release date on January 23, 2021 - so here we go again with Gainax staff members!
