Samuel Sterns walked through the Green Door and gained knowledge in life to be reborn The Leader. Writer Al Ewing, Penciler Butch Guice, Inker Tom Palmer, Colorist Paul Mounts. Good story, and I’m a fan of Guice and Palmer, but this isn’t their best. 3/5

Hawkeye: Freefall (2020) #5
Hawkeye’s war as Ronin with the Hood, seems to be going well, when another enemy enters the fray. Writer Matthew Rosenberg, Artist Otto Schmidt. Rosenberg’s rapid-pace and dark humor are particularly potent, allowing Schmidt to really let loose. 4/5

Black Magick #14
While Rowan is distracted, Alex is attacked by a Daemon. Writer Greg Rucka, Artist Nicola Scott, Colorist Nicola Scott. Rucka’s dialogue says little, yet adds so much to the already amazing Scott’s graphic-storytelling in this terrifying, gripping issue. 4.5/5

X-Men (2019) #9
The Brood! The Shi’ar! The Starjammers! The Imperial Guard! They’re after one thing! The King Egg and the X-Men. Writer Jonathan Hickman, Artist Leinil Francis Yu, Colorist Sunny Gho. Hickman takes a break from headier stuff and gives Yu-Gho a chance to dance. 4/5

Wolverine (2020) #2
Logan goes after the Flower Cartel. Writer Benjamin Percy, Artist Adam Kubert, Colorist Frank Martin. I’m not sure I buy what Percy is putting down, but I’ll give him a chance to elaborate, if for no other reason this is some of Adam Kubert’s best art. 4/5

X-Men/Fantastic Four (2020) #3
The Fantastic Four and the X-Men are united in their concern for Doom’s cure for Franklin Richards powers. Writer Chip Zdarsky, Penciler Terry Dodson, Inkers Rachel Dodson/Ransom Getty, Colorist Laura Martin. Serious moral issues addressed well. 5/5

X-Force (2019) #9
Wolverine, Domino and Kid Omega go on a field trip to... Terra Verde. Writer Benjamin Percy, Artist Joshua Cassara, Colorist Dean White. Percy simply sets the table for Cassara to run amok on art. Love the two-page spread and all his character renderings. 4.5/5

A group of superpowered reborns takes on a military invasion in Eastern Europe. Writer J. Michael Straczynski, Artist Mike Deodato Jr., Colorist Lee Loughridge. Straczynski makes a powerful, non-preachy statement, amplified by Deodato’s graphic brilliance. 4.5/5

Sub-Mariner: Marvel’s Snapshots (2020) #1
Betty Dean and Namor reunite after the war for an outing at Palisades Park. Writer Alan Brennert, Artist Jerry Ordway, Colorist Espen Grundetjern. A nice blend of nostalgia and real-world drama, with Ordway nailing the era details. 4.5/5
