The Amazing Spider-Man (2018) #18
Spider-Man and his enemies are hunted by android Kravens! Writer Nick Spencer is putting an oddly humorous spin on what is turning into to be a very deadly situation. Humberto Ramos and Victor Olazaba’s art looks too loose and a bit rushed. 3/5
@ComicsintheGA I didn’t read Gardner F. Fox’ Kothar and the Wizard Slayer, but I love the Jeffrey Jones covers! Jeffrey Catherine Jones also painted covers for Lin Carter’s Thongor and the Dragon City (Berkley, 1970) and The Quest of Kadji (Belmont, 1971), which I did read many moons ago.
Doctor Strange (2018) #12
Strange’s Sanctum is plundered. Writer Mark Waid begins a marvelously fantastical Lee-Ditko-esque Space-Dimensional epic. Unfortunately, the art team of Barry Kitson, Scott Koblish and Brain Reber don’t quite do the immense scope of it justice. 3/5
Fantastic Four (2018) #8
Doom grandstands the galaxy. Writer Dan Slott is doing some interesting and fun things with the FF, but the consistent inconsistency of the art really hurts the title. This issue of mismatched artists is a good example. 3.5/5
West Coast Avengers (2018) #9
West Coast Avengers... unite! Writer Kelly Thompson’s character work on this title makes the immensely quirky plot (almost) superfluous. Artist Gang Hyuk Lim and color artist Tríona Farrell expressive, lively style suits this book to a T. 4.5/5
Thunderbirds: International Rescue Adversary - The Hood’s Temple: page 30 of “Inside the Worlds of Gerrry Anderson”
Cross-section art by Graham Bleathman #GerryAnderson
Tony Stark: Iron Man (2018) #9
Tony’s birth-mother attempts to rescue him from eScape. Writers Dan Slott & Jim Zub keep the chaos in motion, but it’s Valerio Schiti, Paolo Villanelli & Edgar Delgado’s art that makes it all work by combining both classic and modern techniques. 5/5
Uncanny X-Men (2018) #13
Cyclops and Wolverine draw together a new team of X-Men. Writer Matthew Rosenberg only vaguely begins to piece together a team and its direction. Salvador Larroca’s art is stunning throughout and makes this more impactful than it might be otherwise. 4/5
Hotshots (2019) #1
Domino, Outlaw and Diamondback join Black Widow, Atlas Bear and White Fox to stop a cosmic threat! Writer Gail Simone, artist David Baldeón and colorist Jim Charalampidis keep it fun, light and snappy, but just a tad too frivolous. 4/5
Invaders (2019) #2
Captain America attempts mediation with Namor. Writer Chip Zdarsky keeps the action flowing, while imparting needed dialogue between the major players. I like Carlos Magno’s art on the present, but I love Butch Guice‘ s art on the past. 4.5/5
