Star Wars (2015)
Escape is near, but sacrifices must be made. Writer Kieron Gillen really makes you feel the stakes for these characters that he’s created for this arc. Artist Angel Unzueta (with Guru-eFX colors) flesh them out quite literally. 4.5/5

Avengers (2018)
Fan Fei: the story of the first Iron Fist. Only Jason Aaron could write a story that could make me care deeply about a character I know nothing, and care little about. It helps that it’s illustrated by the gorgeous artwork of Andrea Sorrentino. 5/5

Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: The Beast of Vargu
It’s 1962 and Hellboy is sent to Romania to investigate a series of grizzly killings. Writer Mike Mignola, artist Duncan Fegredo and colorist Dave Stewart (Darkness Calls & The Wild Hunt) reunite to create this singular masterwork. 5/5

Criminal
A loveless Teeg Lawless has fallen in love. Writer Ed Brubaker is using a different character POV for each chapter of The Summer of ‘88, which I’m not usually a fan of, but I really liked getting into Teeg’s head. Artist Sean Phillips, color artist Jacob Phillips. 5/5

Return of Wolverine (2018)
Can Wolverine handle the truth? Writer Charles Soule uses the flashback trope for a clever drawn out reveal. Artist Declan Shalvey and color artist Laura Martin do their usual superlative work. 5/5

Asgardians of the Galaxy (2018)
The Asgardians take on Nebula’s full armada. Writer Cullen Bunn’s lead-up to this finale was more exciting than the somewhat inconsequential conclusion. Artists Stephanie Hans, Matteo Lolli and Luca Maresca all do yeoman to excellent work. 3.5/5

Thor (2018)
Agent of Wakanda Roz Solomon is damn good at her job. Writer Jason Aaron relates a very busy day in her life, cleverly making Thor a guest star in his own book. Artist Mike Del Mundo’s usual propensity for exaggeration in this title is appropriately toned down. 5/5

Star Wars (2015)
Escape from Hubin seems at hand. Writer Kieron Gillen cleverly piles on the tension between all parties and then finishes with a sudden cliffhanger. Angel Unzueta’s art is only somewhat stifled by the coloring. 4/5

Captain Marvel (2019)
Carol gets back to Avenging. Kelly Thompson returns to writing Captain Marvel and it has a nice familiar feeling to it. Artist Carmen Carnero and color artist Tamra Bonvillain’s naturalistic approach is a nice fit. 4.5/5
