Domino (2018) #3
Domino seeks help to control her powers. Gail Simone uses her skill at changing scenes quickly, without interrupting the flow of the narrative, exceptionally well here. David Baldeon’s Manga-influenced style works well for the tone of this book. 4/5
Lightstep #2
January Lee is rescued by the radio-pirate Jazzman. Writers Mirko Topalski and Miloš Slavković take pulp Science-Fantasy and blend it with modern pseudo-Science sensibilities. Miloš Slavković’s art-deco style, sumptuous colors and creative layouts are stunning. 5/5
Doctor Strange (2018) #1
Doctor Strange in Space. Mark Waid writes an entertaining - and dare I say lighthearted - take on Stephen Strange’s search for his magical mojo. Jesu’s Saiz’s beautiful rendering of both the magical and spacial realms are an optic treat. 4.5/5
The Amazing Spider-Man (2017) #800
Spider-Man demonstrates everyone is a hero. Dan Slott celebrates The Amazing Spider-Man’s achievement in grand style! Artists Giuseppe Camuncoli, Jim Cheung, Stuart Immonen, Humberto Ramos and many others all contribute to this wild ride. 5/5
Birthright #33
While Mikey and Rya discus their future, Brennan learns the cost of Magic! Joshua Williamson has mastered the subtly of layered characterization, yet gradually reveals greater plot threads. Artists Andrei Bressan & Adriano Lucas are in complete simpatico! 4.5/5
The Mighty Thor: At the Gates of Valhalla (2018) #1
The Godesses of Thunder seek out Thor in “The Tomorrow Girls,” a feelgood, if slight, story by Jason Aaron & Jen Bartel. 4/5 "The Lord of the Realms" is a middling set-up for next year’s War of the Realms by Aaron/ Pérez. 3/5
All-New Wolverine (2015) #35
Laura saves the future from Doom. I loved Tom Taylor’s writing on this series, but - while I think this is a good symbolic ending for his run - it left me a trifle unsatisfied. I am glad artist Ramon Rosanas stayed on to complete this run. 4/5
Domino (2018) #2
Domino’s team of mercs next gig runs into a spot of good luck? Gail Simone frenetic pacing is perfect for this title. David Baldeon’s art is oddly too slick at times and not tight enough at others, but works most of the time. 4/5
Infinity Countdown (2018) #3
Adam Warlock and the Guardians press onward. Gerry Duggan affinity for Marvel cosmic shows in every caption and word balloon. I love Aaron Kuder’s art on the Guardians arc, but not Mike Hawthorne’s on Warlock as much. 3/5
