Thumbing through my vintage 1979 Heavy Metal ALIEN movie comic adaption. Great movement and horror drips from these panels.

I remember at the time seeing parents complaining to the BBC show ‘Watchdog’ after buying the book for their children only to discover bad language/gore.

Good luck to Cartoon Saloon’s “Wolfwalkers” up for best animated film at the Oscars.

I’ve enjoyed all of CS’s films thus far but I have not yet seen Wolfwalkers as I don’t want to have to subscribe/sign up for yet another streaming service.

Hopeful for a physical release.

Beer was courtesy of the “Blue Moon” and was a cold apricot Kozel beer that I drank slowly, savouring every sip. Bathing my tired pale face in the spring sunshine while reading the booklets that came with the two films.
An hour of bliss. Now back to work.

Oddly, the fictional account of the making of the film doesn’t feature the very real life links that the producers of the production had to the occult, which would have perfectly fitted the film’s premise.
This was to be Prana’s film film to promote their occult beliefs.

Even thought the Netflix “The Dark Crystal” show didn’t quick click with me as much as I’d have liked it to (perhaps a little too bloated for my tastes), I did admire all the practical work that went into it, especially the wonderful Skeksis. Shame the show will not be concluded.

Working over the Easter holiday weekend. If I had one (vanity) superhero skill it would be to draw faster. I always feel so painfully slow, like my hand can’t keep up with the images in my head. I’m always having to work late to make up the time.
I’m probably not alone in this.

Also - poor son of Godzilla, his old man does treat him rather badly, dishing out tough love in an attempt to make him into a monster. And if he’s not taking a beating by the other giant creatures on the island he’s getting a slap from his dad.

The ‘Whiplash’ of monster movies.

Such visions. Much missed.

Some modern viewers might be out off by the artifice or pacing of older movies (or other hindsight issues) but I love the look and feel and scripting of older movies. Not to mention their fabulous hand crafted production design work in which limitations are embraced.

I seem to be more drawn to the cinema of yesterday rather than much of modern cinema, and as such I felt the need to revisit two earlier David Lean/Dickens films - “Great Expectations” and “Oliver Twist.”
Once again I had to turn to Germany for films not release on blu in the UK.
