As for Piccolo, Toriyama’s RF character design notes say how he lives in a house out in some mountains near Gohan’s place, and comes over for dinner all the time (Videl totally serves the best water). We’ll apparently be seeing plenty of Piccolo’s pad in next year’s film.

(Although there are obviously many differences between the RF movie and DBS TV version, it is perhaps simpler to assume that movie-Piccolo is merely rounding up and that Freeza only trains about 4 months in both versions)

The Pteranodon monsters are called バピラス/Bapirasu in Japanese, and Terrordactyl in the English DQ games. Inevitably they have a strong early Dragon Ball vibe to them.

The anime makes sure to depict Kill-Vearn’s blood as magma (this will be a minor plot point later on). In the manga it’s just a few nondescript black specks, likely because Sanjo hadn’t yet thought up the whole “Kill has magma blood” thing at the time.

Ultimately though Gohan’s family life remains the central dating clue. The Super anime and manga both have him attending an academic conference during the U6 tournament, and the anime in particular focuses on his budding academic career. He’s obviously no high school student

In the manga, Maam trains in…well, possibly panties, or maybe Japanese-style athletic bloomers. Either way, this was officially deemed too sexy, and replaced with gym shorts

The evil Buu is destroyed, but thankfully he had spit out his better half earlier. This good Buu has the fat form of the Dai-Kaioshin, but lacks that god’s divine power. Instead, that power all went to the evil half, and from there to the reincarnated Uub.
