Besides the TB, DB Earth boasts as least two other world tournaments, which may or may not include the Olympics, since that also apparently exist in DB. (Viz says “international” instead of “world”, which as you may recall from yesterday’s thread is a poor choice of words)
Why May 7th, exactly? Piccolo Senior takes the throne on May 9th (one of the few specific dates gives in the series), and backtracking from this places the 22nd TB on May 7th. The guidebooks therefore take this as the date the tournament is always held on.
In the series, Piccolo explains that the world is subdivided into 43 districts (地区), one of which is West City. Daizenshuu 7 adds that these were originally the 43 countries that united into the world state (making West City originally a sort of city-state).
What kind of king, exactly? Bulma just uses the generic 王様/ōsama, but according to Daizenshuu 7, this was the “king of the nation” (国王/koku-ō) from 100 years ago. Doesn’t sound like a big difference, but the term 国王/koku-ō has a very specific meaning on DB Earth...
Since Kami created his dragon balls around Age 470, this leaves a window of less than 200 years for people to make wishes pre-Oolong. But we know at least one guy managed it: according to Bulma, the last person to collect the DBs became a king.
Age 650: after nearly 100 years collecting dirty books, Roshi adds something else to his collection: the Three-Star Ball he finds on the ocean floor. He eventually passes this on to Bulma a century later, meaning nobody uses Earth’s dragon balls in the meantime. #HistoryofEver
@joeyweiser At any rate, I know that the Japanese word for walrus is “seiuchi”
Larhart is a demon/Darkling like Hadlar (well, we’ll learn a bit more about him later). His mount just seems to be a standard Green Dragon (so standard they’re just straight-up called “Dragon” in Japanese).
Coincidence or not, Dragon Ball Online features pirate enemies led by “Captain Bacterian”, tasked by Towa with gathering energy to restore Cell in the future world of Age 1000. Perhaps the martial artist Bacterian is both the descendant and ancestor of pirates?
In the manga we don’t get a specific timeframe for the pirates besides that it was “long ago” before capsules were invented, but in the anime the guard robot is described as being around for centuries. So DB Earth has had advanced firearms/subs and even robots for a long time.
