Also, vol.74 will be out soon, and to celebrate Weekly Playboy has an article on Yudetamago’s favorite pages from (somewhat confusingly) vol.73. Both halves of Yude enjoyed the return of the Big Body team and the challenge of making them look cool. https://t.co/RAyk8dq6SZ
It’s possibly around this time that Roshi invents the Kamehameha, a grueling process that takes him 50 years. Or at least that’s how long he claims it takes to learn the technique, so presumably that’s how long it took for him. God knows it doesn’t take anyone else that long.
Roshi originally tells Goku that he received his magic cloud from Kami/God (one of the earliest uses of the term in DB, long before any of the series’ familiar gods had appeared), but this is later clarified/retconned to be Karin (hey, he is called “god of the martial arts”)
The idea that Bojack and his minions are survivors of the “Hera Clan” (ヘラー一族, Herā Ichizoku) is never mentioned within DBZ Movie 9 itself, and instead seems to have first popped up in the 1993 game Super Butoden 2, before recently making a comeback in Dokkan Battle.
Now that he’s secure in his role, the new Kami develops a relationship with Mister Popo. He teaches Popo Namekian, and hones his martial arts skills (this seems odd if Popo’s been around far longer, but then it’s not like his job specifically calls for martial arts skills).
While the series doesn’t show their initial creation, we do get to see Kami and Popo recreating Shenlong after Piccolo Senior blows him up. Popo created the stone dragon model (and repairs it post-Piccolo), while Kami infuses it with life.
On the exact opposite end of the spectrum, the Great Elder describes the child of Katatz as 半減ing his power by splitting up into Kami and Piccolo. Literally 半減 means to reduce by half, but once again it’s probably a waste of time to try applying this to actual numbers.
Age 474: by now, Towa’s big brother Dabura had fallen under the wizard Babidi’s thrall and joined his quest to revive Majin Buu. Step 1: check out conditions on Earth, resting place of Buu’s ball. But Dabura doesn’t do it himself. Lord no, he has people for that. #HistoryofEver
Bukujutsu (“Levitation Technique”) is the fancy name for hovering or flying by manipulating one’s ki. Roshi calls it a Crane School speciality, but eventually it becomes standard for all DB characters. Even aliens who’ve never heard of the Crane School fly via the same principle.
Well OK...to be fair, Roshi’s emphasis on mixing hard work with proper rest has much to recommend it. His refusal to teach fancy moves and instead allow students to discover their own ways of applying the basics sounds good too...
