Q is for The Quest for the Holy Grail.
The Holy Grail tapestries were commissioned by William Knox d'Arcy for Stanmore Hall, Middlesex and designed and produced by Morris & Co. between 1890 & 1895. These photogravures of the original works are by photographer Frederick Hollyer.
This 1835 Albion press was purchased by Morris in 1890, the first of three presses used by the Kelmscott Press, and the only one still in the UK. Visit our museum on Thursdays, Saturdays & Sundays to see it!

Did you know that William Morris designed the ceiling of the Oxford Union debating hall? The murals were painted between 1857 and 1859 by a team of young artists including Rossetti, Morris and Burne-Jones. Morris' design depicts Acanthus leaves swirling around a central pole.
L is for #Lodden
Lodden was designed by #WilliamMorris and made at #MertonAbbey in 1883. It was originally block printed on cotton fabric but later sold as wallpaper and adapted for a rug. Lodden has a very large repeat, more suited for a mural than tiles.
Did you know that William Morris was an ecologist? He rejected the chemical aniline dyes, which were predominant during his time, and he emphasised on organic dyes, such as indigo for blue.
