Retrogaming of the 8 and 16 bit variety. That's my jam. 😎

That's one side of the game that I missed out on. If I had an N64 in its heyday, I would have had tons of opportunity to set it up with two or three other people to play against. (As it was, I mostly did that with Amiga games.) 😁 But as it was, I enjoyed the GoldenEye missions.

..and then how lucky were we that the Rare went on to do Perfect Dark (which is really a spiritual successor to GoldenEye, but futuristic and with a female protagonist.) For the most part this game is just as awesome. I love the direction then took this in. Lotsa good Sci-fi. 👍

I forgot how much I like Accolade's Ace of Aces. It's a faux flight-sim quite similar to The Dambusters, where you fly into war-torn Europe, and take on missions involving V1 rockets, a squadron of bombers, bombing a train, and/or some diving u-boats. A game of good sub-games. 😎

I really did like Underwurlde. 🤔 Now I realise how absurdly cruel it was. But back in the 8-bit era, I think we'd all kinda built up a tolerance for having the pixels beaten out of us. 😁

Oh, and lets not even speak of Imhotep or Outlaws. I played them way back then, and couldn't find any joy in it at all. (Like, I had them on hire for a week, and I'd stopped playing before the first day was out.) 😐

Expanded Sprites was what we had to do before we picked-up on the idea of sprite multiplexing. 😎

Great for giving things a chunky "I could squish you" kind of look.

But what I kind of enjoy now, is being able to revisit them. Especially as it's easy to find a version of it with a trainer so I can attack them with infinite energy and just have a more relaxed exploration of the game world. See the corners of the castle I never got to as a kid.

I'm not sure it was a *good* game, as far as the gameplay was concerned. But it was one of the very early games I played. It was challenging, I had to work out what spells worked, and I could try for different puzzle pieces. So I enjoyed it. But yeah, it was different for sure.

Yeah. The 16-bit versions looked pretty: big colourful graphics. But the animation was so smooth on the C64 version, and the gameplay just felt better somehow. (Though I'm bound to think that, as the C64 version was the first one I played.) 😁

I didn't realise Karnath, Entombed, and Buggy Boy were all the same coders. Solid games those. 😁
