I loved this fantasy adventure by the wonderful @philipreeve1 (cover by our own @paddydonnelly)
Utterly is a terrific character and it's beautifully written and richly plotted - a real treat for fantasy readers of age 10+.

@DarcyCameron7 @RTELateLateShow You could try the Isadora Moon books (age 6/7+) which are very sweet friendship and family stories about a girl who is half vampire, half fairy. Really well written and the illustrations are a treat. #BookElves2021
Calling the #BookElves2021
Would you like to introduce yourself and tell us your favourite children's book of all time?
I'm Sarah, children's writer, bk event programmer, children's book reviewer and part-time children's bookseller.
I'm going to choose Where the Wild Things Are
Mr @paddydonnelly has had quite the year with four picturebooks published! The Vanishing Lake is my favourite of the four, his first as author/illustrator. It's the charming story of a lake that disappears - based on a real Irish lake. Age 4+ #BookElves2021
@Nedloughlin @MyraZepf has some great suggestions too! And I love Eoinín by @MuirNiChiobhain and @roisinhahessy - it's a board book and beautifully illustrated.
The #BookElves2021 are hard at it, recommending great books for the young readers in your life. The Boot series by @shanehegarty illustrated by Ben Mantle are great fun for younger readers (6+) who love robots. Lots of gentle humour and great friendship themes too.
The artwork is stunning - full of strange creatures and strange places - and there’s a darkness to the story that reminds me of all the great fairy tales, like Little Red Riding Hood. In this wonderfully odd story the girls are strong, brave and delight in being sisters. Age 6+
Lightship is by Brian Floca and I just love the illustrations - full of character and interesting perspectives.
Great fun and a useful book for explaining to children that even the best of friends can annoy each other sometimes! Gracie says ‘I’m quite fussy, you see.’ And my goodness is she! Bravo Dahl, Lozano and @BIGPictureBooks - a real winner!
It reads like a fairy tale, with echoes of Hans Christian Andersen. It’s a large format hardback which would make a charming gift and is ideal for reading aloud to children who still have a strong sense of wonder.
