Vaughan Bodē was born OTD in 1941. The underground artist was noted for his creation Cheech Wizard, and Marvel & Warren would showcase his work; this is from the 1973 debut of CRAZY magazine. A groundbreaker in gender fluidity, Bodē died of autoerotic asphyxiation at only 33.

7/7/70: We didn't know it at the time, but HOUSE OF MYSTERY #188 was a pivotal issue in the history of comics. It featured the American debut of Tony DeZuniga, who would use his connections with other Filipino artists to help DC open the floodgates. And it's a beautiful piece.
