@kitchy76 @3wojis @CommodoreBlog Yup! Spyhunter!
Awesome game, that. 👍
That and Tapper are two early C64 conversions that, to me, are still more fun to play than the real arcade game.
(IIRC, the instructions for Spy Hunter even mentioned how to wire up a button to the other joystick port for secondary weapons.)
But they've really got the idea of how to make a educational title fun. Lots of cool button-y gadget things to click on, all the text-stuff is concise, and there are short cut-scenes with lively cartoon characters to keep up the fun-factor. (I like the warrant-processing robot.)
Looks like they're use a fixed-colour palette for the pictures, which is a shame. It could look so much better with a dynamic palette. But I like the button-y gadget-y look of the desktop - especially the phone with the retractable antenna. The plane travel-bits are a nice touch.
@sincespacies @RetrogamesNow It was a good boss level..
Shoot a channel into the centre, then off to the edge to shoot out the rotating ring, and finally back into the centre to blow the b*gger away. Very satisfying. Great stuff. 👍
@000Angus000 @rhayadercompute I was going to make some snide remark about the waiting that would be involved with running The Eidolon from tape .. 🤔 Then I remembered that I *had* The Eidolon on tape. I experienced that. I read the Encyclopaedia Britannica while those levels loaded. 😋
It has many elements that only make sense in the 8-bit games: boxes of ammo liberally strewn around the jungle, snakes that politely bob up and down in the trees, and primitive humanoids that drop down and attack when you approach. Instead of death, you get knocked out for a bit.
@CrazyCollector1 C64 screenshots for comparison:
(I used to play this game a lot. The CPU player is on rails, so you just gotta stay out of his way, but the game has a lot of levels, and just the right amount of challenge IMHO.) 😎

(I’m at a party .. I got nothing better to do.) 😉
