Think publishers definitely need to continue to explore this area. Especially when thinking about building empathy and understanding.

@one_to_read @EmpathyLabUK There’s so much more to picturebooks that go beyond surface level meaning. The concurrence / convergence dynamic between illustration and word are so interesting to analyse. Sometimes a single sentence or image can just stop you in your tracks.

Memories of grandad will live on after he passes. Journaling, artwork and poetry combine in Joseph Coelho and Allison Colpoys beautiful text.

Blending with non-fiction, these well-researched biographies can be a really good entry point to a prominent mathematician’s life and a stepping stone for further research.

@MeakerR @LaraHawthorne Planet SOS is a great one for UKS2, plenty of scope to focus on specific environmental issues facing the planet. Amazing link to world mythology, too. Can’t wait to make a display from the text.

It would be remiss of me to not tweet about the Picturebook text in the Secondary collection. A beautifully illustrated, hard-hitting, uplifting, hopeful read: ‘The Undefeated’ by @kwamealexander & @KadirNelson. This needs to be in the hands of so many children. #ReadForEmpathy
