Every time you manage to solve one of the mysteries, the OLD GOD stirs in its slumber, causing a town-wide effect (generally making the game harder). The effects stack and I've lost count of how many times my characters died because of that.

Continuing to show off the weapons in The Wave is an excellent defensive weapon. Decent close-range damage, but it's main use is to reflect projectiles back at the enemy. It covers you, but hurts them!
