Champion Edition isn't really the most often confused SF2 title. The 3rd arcade entry was only really titled SF2 Dash Turbo in Japan and everywhere else it was SF2: Hyper Fighting.
"SF2 Turbo" is the most common name, but that was only an official title for the SNES port.
However, the settings of the two games don't add up. Meryl is in her teens in MGS1, which is set in 2005, while she's 24 in Policenauts, set in 2040. The only possible explanation that they're the same Meryl is that she underwent cryogenic sleep at some point like Jonathan did.
@VGDensetsu The Double Dragon 3 postcard looks very similar to the boxart they used for the Famicom version, which I always suspected was done by Tsutomu Ando (who did the box/manual art for Return, Shodai Nekketsu and probably the SFC Combatribes), but the postcard is signed by a "Ben".
The illustrated cinematics for the Kurohyou series have a style very similar to the ones in the PSP MGS titles. A studio named Spookygraphic was in charge of both. They also contributed to Tekken Tag 2, Pikmin 3, Style Savvy and other works outside games.

@LordEmmerich The use of MGA1 Snake was likely a placeholder, but it seems they intended to bring back Teliko initially, since they drew a profile shot of her that ended up being unused in the game.

@LordEmmerich @CapLagRobin Inamura was a programmer on Castlevania: Bloodlines and the Sega CD Snatcher (where he even has a profile on GAUDY/JORDAN). I think he also worked on the Saturn version of Tokimeki Memorial, but I don't remember his exact role there.
@Ochan30 @forestillusion I'm talking about the origin of the specific drawing of Mario holding the mushroom, but yeah the US Mario 2 manual art had Mario with red overalls, despite coming out at the same time as Mario 3 did in Japan, which had the blue overalls. They "fixed" it in the All-Stars manual.
@forestillusion Did Mario ever blue overalls/red shirt before Mario 3/Mario USA? I get the impression this 1st illustration was colored after the fact. I know it's based on the JP boxart for Mario 1, but it's not exactly the same (the sideburn is a bit different for one thing).
huke also drew online comic cheat sheets for the original Metal Gear Online (MGO) and Metal Gear Acid 2 (MGA2), as well as the manual comic for Metal Gear Solid 4 (MGS4).
